Energy efficiency emerged as one of the big winners in the federal stimulus bill, with more than $12 billion allocated to energy efficiency projects — everything from home weatherization to improved power generation at major utilities. Many of the details — who’s eligible for what, and how much of the money will be disbursed directly and how much through states, municipalities and utilities — are not yet clear.
But Bay Area businesses that retrofit homes, fund solar projects, write energy-saving software and wring efficiencies out of industrial processes and commercial buildings are jockeying for position in anticipation.
